The Statistical studies on the Emergency room visits in Buchon SEJONG Hospital


Abstract
Total 9464 patients, who visited the emergency room of SEJONG hospital from Jan. 1 84 to Dec. 31, were evaluated, on the basis of daily records in the emergency room.
The results were as follows:
1. The E.R. patients were 6.5% of total outpatient in numbers.
2. The weekend was most crowded with E.R. patients in the days of the week. The patient increased in the summer months in number, and in compairing with the past data of other studies, the midnight time patients increased.
3. The percentage of patients, by department, who were seen at E.R., were in decreasing order as follows, Internal medicine, Pediatrics, Orthopedics, General surgery, Neurosurgery and so on.
4. Males were high in number and the peaked age group were from 20 to 29 yr of age.
5. The problem, classified by ICHPPC-2, why the patients visited he E.R. were in decreasing order as follows, Accidents, poisoning and violence 26.7%, Diseases of Digestive system 15.7%, Physical signs & symtoms, and Ill-defined Conditions 7.9%, Diseases of Respiratory system 9.2%, Diseases of Genitourinary system 5.8% and so on.
6. The overall admission rate of the total visits to E.R. was 29.2%, which was much higher compaired with the admission rate of total outpatients by 6.8 fold.
7. The ratio of via E.R. admitted patients to the overall admission patients was 44%.
8. Total 6359 -patients, 63.7%, were sent home, after some managements or referred to the out patient department immediately.
